What is lignin?
In simple terms, lignin is the sap found in wood fiber used in manufacturing some paper. Lignin is
acidic and must be removed from the fiber in the manufacturing process to be archival.
How many pages can a Newport album hold?
A Newport can hold 50 sheets using 2” replacement posts. In bookbinding, this is referred to as 100 pages, but it’s actually 50 two -sided sheets.
Q: Which of your albums are dry mount? In other words, which require the use of photo corners, photo mounts or photo tape to affix the images?
A: The Newport is dry mount albums.
Q: Which of your albums are easy-load? In other words, which albums have pockets into which I can insert my photos?
A: The Hudson and Noci are easy-load albums.
Q: What is the best environment to keep my album in?
A: It is important to store all photographs and photo albums in a dry place out of direct sunlight, with a consistent temperature around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity and large fluctuations in temperature can seriously damage photographs, even if archival storage products are used.
Do you do custom imprints? For example will you put my initials on the album?
No, I am sorry to say we are unable to offer that service. Many people use the window as a way to personalize their album.
What if I find a mark or scratch on the leather?
When buying leather goods, it’s important to note that it is a natural skin product with natural flaws
in the leather. This is considered part of its beauty and uniqueness, since no two skins are alike.
Minor flaws are to be expected as they are on a fine handbag or piece of clothing. However, if
there is a major flaw, by all means, return it for a full refund or replacement.
Was an animal killed to make this album? I don’t agree with that practice.
I can certainly respect your position. From our point of view, leather is a bi-product of the livestock
food industry and we are comfortable using leather for things such as albums, or shoes for
example. Otherwise these skins would go to waste, which we think would be far worse. But I
certainly, respect your position and you may prefer to use our other book cloth covered albums.
How do the photos stay in the Noci album?
The pages have polypropylene sleeves built in to hold the 4 x 6 photos onto the page. The sleeves can be removed and the album used without them if you use adhesive to mount the photos.
I love the look; I just don’t have the time to use corners.
There is a trick to using the corners that can save a lot of time. You simply put the photo corners on each corner of a photograph before you place it on the page. Then peel and paste. It’s a lot easier that way. The tape gun is the easiest. Just zip and paste. And of course, the Hudson and Noci albums have polypropylene sleeves that hold the photos in place. This is the easiest way.
How many photos’ can I fit on an 11 x 14 Newport page?
You can fit up four 4 x 6 inch photos per page. You can also fit two, 5 x 7 photographs on one 11 x 14
page.
What is a cloth hinge?
This refers to a Kolo innovation. The cloth hinge is the edge of an album page (for example in the
Newport) that allows the page to fold over nicely. It’s a design detail that not only performs better,
but also, looks beautiful.
Q: Are your photo corners self adhesive?
A: Yes.
Q: Should I use photo corners, photo mounts or photo tape for my project?
A: Photo corners, photo mounts and photo tape are all effective methods of affixing images to scrapbook pages and choose which to use is generally a personal preference. Photo tape and photo mounts are a permanent method of affixing images to the page; however, if using photo corners you may remove the photo from the corners in order to change the photo, scan or make a copy of it. Some people prefer the ease of using photo mounts and others find the photo tape preferable especially for odd sized objects/memorabilia.
Q: Why should I purchase 1” or 2” replacement posts if refills come with ½” extender posts?
A: Although each package of refill pages comes with ½” posts which may be added to those already in the album, the more of these posts which are added cause a reduction in the album’s stability. For this reason, we offer 1” and 2” replacement posts. These replace those which come with the album to allow greater capacity and stability. Use 2” replacement posts when expanding the recommended maximum sheets, 50.
Q: How many photos does the medium Havana hold?
A: The medium Havana can accommodate approximately 500 4”x6” photos. This box will also accommodate 12 Noci albums.
Q: Which albums will fit in the large Havana box?
A: The large Havana will fit two 8 ½” x 11” Newport, two 8 1/2” x 11 Lucca or 2 Newbury albums.
Q: Is there a box which will accommodate the 11”x14” sized albums?
A: Unfortunately, Kolo does not currently offer a box designed for these albums.
Q: How many divider tabs does the medium Havana come with? Can I buy more?
A: The medium Havana box comes with 5 divider tabs. Kolo offers additional divider tabs for additional purchase in packages of 5
Q: What is bonded leather?
A. The fiber content of the bonded leather product comprises of 100% recycled cow hide fibers. The fibers are bonded together by natural latex, a renewable resource from Hevea trees without actually harming any trees. Approximately 70% of the total content of bonded leather is leather fibers and 30% is non-leather substances, mainly the natural latex along with tannin oils, vegetable tannin, dyes and leather finishes. Our bonded leather products have the same, look, feel and aroma of the genuine leather as they are tannery made.
Q: How many pages can I fit in my refillable post-bound album?
A: The answer is the same for all Newport and Lucca albums. With the included posts the albums will accommodate up to 15 pages, with the 1 inch posts up to 25 pages, with the 2 inch posts up to 50 pages. Note: The Lucca comes with 20 pages and 1” posts
Q: What type of pages does the Newbury have?
A: The Newbury features scored scrapbook style paper pages onto which images may be affixed using photo corners, photo mounts and/or photo tape. Protector pages do not come with the album; however, are available in packages of 10 for separate purchase. The scores on the inside portion of the page near the album’s binding allow the pages to fold over easily.
Q: What type of pages does the Newport have?
A: The Newport features our famous and luxurious cloth-hinged scrapbook style paper pages onto which images may be affixed using photo corners, photo mounts and/or photo tape. Protector pages do not come with the album; however, are available in packages of 10 for separate purchase.
Q: Can the protector pages be removed from the Noci?
A: Yes, the Noci features removable polypropylene protector pages so the album may be used as a small scrapbook instead of an easy-load album.
