How to Rewax Your Waxed Canvas House Shoes, Bag, Tote, or PouchUpdated a month ago

To effectively rewax and restores its water-resistance and gives it a fresh, protective finish, you will need fabric or canvas wax, such as Otter Wax Heavy Duty Fabric Wax, available at our physical locations, specialty outdoor retailers, online marketplaces, and specific heritage clothing brands. Additionally, you'll need a soft cloth or sponge and a hairdryer.

Here are two methods to rewax your shoes: one using liquid wax and the other using a wax bar.

Method 1: Using Liquid Wax

Materials Needed:
  • Liquid wax (like Otter Wax Liquid Fabric Wax)
  • Soft cloth or sponge
  • Hairdryer
Steps:
  1. Clean the Shoes: Begin by cleaning your shoes to remove dirt and debris. Let them dry completely.
  2. Apply the Liquid Wax: Use a soft cloth or sponge to apply an even layer of liquid wax to the surface of the shoes. Make sure to cover all areas, focusing on seams and high-wear spots.
  3. Heat the Wax: Turn on your hairdryer to a low setting and gently heat the waxed areas. This helps the wax penetrate the fabric and form a protective barrier.
  4. Let It Set: Allow the wax to set for a few minutes to ensure proper adhesion.
  5. Buff the Surface: Once the wax has cooled and set, use a clean cloth to buff the surface, enhancing the shine and durability.

Method 2: Using a Wax Bar

Materials Needed:
  • Wax bar (like Otter Wax Heavy Duty Fabric Wax)
  • Soft cloth or sponge
  • Hairdryer
Steps:
  1. Clean the Shoes: Start by giving your shoes a good clean and allowing them to dry thoroughly.
  2. Rub the Wax Bar: Take the wax bar and rub it directly onto the surface of the shoes, applying a generous amount to ensure complete coverage.
  3. Heat the Wax: Use a hairdryer on a low setting, aiming it at the waxed areas. The heat will help melt the wax into the fabric, allowing for better absorption.
  4. Spread the Wax: While the wax is warm, use a soft cloth or sponge to spread it evenly across the shoes, paying special attention to seams and edges.
  5. Allow to Cool: Let the wax cool and harden for a bit. This will create a solid protective layer.
  6. Buff the Surface: Finally, buff the surface using a clean, soft cloth to achieve a smooth finish.

Following these methods will help keep your fabric or canvas shoes protected and looking great for longer!
